Mark 7:31-37 - Sighs and Signs

There are thousands of "unreached people groups" across the globe. The largest group? Deaf people.

In our next section of Mark's gospel, Jesus encounters a Gentile man who was born both deaf and mute. Once again, He demonstrates great mercy by meeting the man's need, granting him the ability to hear and the ability to speak. He will take advantage of this blessing by telling everyone what Jesus has done for Him.

With that said, there is a bigger picture on display behind this particular miracle, which is that Jesus is the one through whom we will receive the promised new age and restored creation. Though we have been broken by sin, God makes all things new in Christ Jesus. This is already been put into action through Jesus' first coming, as shown in his healing of the deaf mute, but it will soon be completed when Jesus returns to rid the world of all sin and suffering.

Still, in our passage, we understand the mechanism by which he will bring this about - at least, in part. The question is... do you have a future in Jesus? Have you put your faith in him and encouraged others to do the same?
